ONTO THE REPORTS:

WESTERN PORT:
CORONET BAY:

The whiting in this area have been going quite well this week. Most anglers have been fishing in shallow (3 meters) and pulling fish ranging 34 – 43cm. The top of the high tide has been the best time with pipi the gun bait.

RHYLL:

The Rhyll area has again been producing some good fish this week. Anglers fishing around the Rhyll channel entrance and in 13 meters of water off Observation Point have been the most two prolific locations for elephants.

We also had one report from an angler “Andrew” who caught and released 12 elephants in one sitting off the Corals this week.

Half Pilchards and Squid strips are the best bait.

CORINELLA:

We have had a few reports this week of Elephants being caught from the Corinella Pier. The most productive time as been the top of the high tide. Elephants respond well to berley and it is as simple as hanging an onion bag with a tuna log or pellets onto the surface of the water. Best baits have been half pilchards or strips of calamari fished on a 3/0 circle hook and running sinker rig.
Peter Thompson fished from the Pier last Monday night and managed three elephants to 4kg’s. Pilchards were the preferred bait.

Regular customer Shayne Turner fished the Corinella area in search of gummy sharks first thing one the morning this week. After putting in the hours, Jason managed to land a number of small gummies ranging from 3-6kg along with a few elephant fish. Most fish were returned. He also had a ripper run which had all the characteristics of a big mulloway, but after 30 minutes on the rod it busted him off. All fish were caught on pilchards and squid.

MIDDLE SPIT:

Still some good whiting to be had along the Middle Spit this week. Matt Cini from Reel Time fishing charters has still been finding whiting in good numbers and size. Matt has been hanging a little off the bank in 5 meters of water fishing the run out tides. The fish in this depth have been less than shy and are willing to drill a bait. Pipi and mussel have been the most productive to use. Matt has put his clients onto some great fish this week with some bags of whiting ranging 38 to 48cm. Once fish they caught measured in at 50cm.

JOES ISLAND:

Regular Customer Ron Smith headed out solo to fish around Joes Island this week. Fishing the run out tide Ronny managed 2 Gummies around 6kg each on fresh calamari rings. By the end of the tide, Ron made a move to the top of the middle spit to catch 2 snapper around 3kg’s each on calamari and 5 whiting up to 45cm on pipi baits.

WESTERN ENTRANCE:

Paul and Jet headed out with good mate Tony Knight and son Hamish along with Gawaine Blake on Tuesday. The boys were in search of gummy sharks; instead a whopping big seven gill shark took one of their baits. Young Hamish battled the beast before releasing it at the side of the boat. They boys also managed some nice pinkie snapper.

PORT PHILLIP BAY:
SORRENTO:

The fishing at Sorrento this past week has been sensational. The most prolific locations have been amongst the moorings at the boat ramp as well as drifting past Pt Franklin. Two hours either side of the low tide change has been most productive.

RYE – SCALLOPS:

Staff member Jarrod got an invitation to go scalloping from David Kramer of Future Fish. The boys met at Rye on Sunday and headed out into 3 meters of water where they gatherered a great feed of scallops. After all the hard effort, scallops on the BBQ with the family were the order of the day

MT MARTHA:

In the last few days we have received quite a number of reports from anglers doing very well on snapper. The fish are wide spread from Mt Martha to Carrum but mostly in the deeper water. The fish have ranged from 4 – 6 kg’s and are being taken on Pilchards and Squid baits.

FRANKSTON:

Staff member Mark Keaveny had a blinder calamari session this week fishing around Fishermans Beach. Mark had his bag of squid in the boat and had the boat back on trailer in under an hour. Harimitsu in EWC and EBR were the best colours.

PATTERSON RIVER:

Customer Mark fished the Patterson River on Sunday morning. Fishing between the entrance and 1st flood gate, Mark caught and released 7 bream ranging 36 – 40cm on pipi. Other guys around him also caught a few nice bream on hard bodied lures

MORDIALLOC:

Staff member Rentlo has received a few reports of pinkie snapper being caught to 40cm from the Mordialloc Pier. Pilchards and squid have been the best baits around the tide change. They are also a lot of garfish being caught on silverfish too.

CLOSE TO HOME:
WARATAH BAY

FacebookRoss Finnegan fished off the beach at Waratah Bay a few weeks ago and posted his report this week on the IFISHTV FACEBOOK page. This magnificent gummy shark was released shortly after the photo was taken. Ross caught the fish after seeking advice from one of the staff at Tackle World Cranbourne before heading off for a few days.

Waratah Bay

TAMBO RIVER:

The Tambo River is fishing well for bream with both baits and lures working well. Best baits have been small black crabs along with scrub worms fished unweighted or on a light sinker cast towards the snags and rockwalls. Soft plastics and hard bodied lures have taken their fair share of fish with small bibbed minnows like Zipbait Rigge 46’s and Ecogear SX 40’s working best.  Along with the bream some good flathead have been caught around Lakes Entrance with some solid fish to 60cms.

OVER THE BORDER:

WEST ISLAND, QLD

FacebookJoseph Worn caught this beautiful Coral Trout while fishing just out from north West Island in QLD. The beaut weighed in at 9 and a half pounds.

West Island QLD

JERVIS BAY, NSW

Jason Fitzgerald has been doing very well fishing land based at Jervis Bay. Jason caught this little Bonito and lost two kingfish this week. The fishing seems to be red hot up there at the moment.

Jervis Bay

ST HELENS, TAS:

Regular Customer and Joker Wazza took his family to Tasmania for a week’s holiday last week. They had some insane bream action at St Helens. They fished with Michael Hayley of Gone Fishing Charters to catch and release countless numbers of bream.

Wazza’s son’s Jake and Jamie both got their PB bream at 48cm to the fork and wazza got new PB at 46cm fork. Wazza said the Nories lay down minnows and squidgy wrigglers 100m in wasabi and bloodworm were the best lures.

THIS WEEKS WEATHER:

RECOMMEND FISHING LOCATIONS FOR THIS WEEKEND:

Based on the current weather forecast it looks as though there will be plenty of locations worth trying. Thank god the rain is disappearing.

BOAT BASED - PORT PHILLIP BAY:

You really can go passed the calamari fishing at either Sorrento or Mornington. They are still in plaque proportions and worth a go if you are looking for a tasty side dish at dinner.

Red Rocks at Mornington is very productive. Fishing the high tide will give you the best chance. Use small jigs in size 1.7 and 2.0 for best results. The calamari aren’t huge in this area and respond really to the smaller sized jigs. Bright orange and pink colours are always good in this area, but try a natural brown or black and see how you go. If you find you’re snagging up in the shallow water, it will pay to drop shot the jig by placing a drop shot sinker on the end of the line and attaching the jig to a dropper loop.

BOAT BASED – WESTERN PORT:

We are right in the middle of the elephant season at present and with them easy to catch, this is a great option. Although the bag limit is one per person per day, you can catch your bag and then go whiting fishing.

Elephants are very easy to catch if you’re in the right area. Rhyll is the most prolific location to find them. They respond really well to berley and like pilchards and squid baits.
A well known location called the Elephant Triangle is well known for supporting good numbers of elephants. The best setup is a running sinker rig tied from 40lb trace with a size 3/0 circle hook.

LAND BASED:

Land Based fishing is always difficult at the best of times and even more difficult with kids when you’re not catching anything. Often just spending the day catching the bread and butter species is always great entertainment.

If you want a good location to take the kids, look at fishing from one of the many surf beaches. All the beaches have good numbers of yellow eye mullet and salmon at the moment.
Use an onion bag with pellets it in to wash in the wave break and cast pipi’s on small size 10 long shank hooks only 5 meters behind the berley trail. Within a few minutes you will be into some great light tackle fun.
