WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE FISHING HOLIDAY DESTINATION AND WHY? There is too many to mention. I will say the Rowley shoals, 360 kilometres North West of Broome, W.A. Followed very closely by Western Port. I love it because it is in my back yard and it is where I learnt so much about fishing. A close third is Cabo San Lucus in Mexico. Cristy and I fished their on our honeymoon, Wow. |
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SPECIES OF FISH TO CATCH AND STYLE OF FISHING?
Again, I can’t just pick one. Sailfish, thresher sharks and about 100 others. Sails are awesome because you see them bite, they jump, go deep are blistering fast and look hot. You can also catch them on light tackle. Apart from seeing the bite, threshers for the same reasons. Then GT’s, Jacks, marlin, whiting, snapper, perch, bream, Wahoo, queen fish etc: etc:
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE LURE AND IF SO WHAT IS IT?
The Yo-Zuri hydro magnum is the best bibbed lure that I have ever used.
Dorado is my favourite colour. They just catch everything, all the time. The
140S Duel slider is a gun on big GT's too.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE CATCH?
Firstly my wife Cristy and then my boy jet reef.
On the fishing scene it is probably my 275 kilo AAA Australian record Mako shark off Cape Woolamai, my AAA Australian record Thresher shark of 75 kilos off Kilcunda, my first 50lb barramundi at Awonga Dam, QLD.
Two Hapuku of around 60 and 40 kilos on the same rig off Great Barrier Island, NZ.
My 1.3 kilo King George whiting off Marion Bay, SA. My double hook up on two snapper of 25 +27lb off Whyalla, A black Bass in the PNG Jungle. A sailfish on a 250g jig of EP Island, Vanuatu, and an eight kilo snapper on a Shimano prowler nibble tip rod off Carrum.......... sorry I will stop now.
WHERE HAS FISHING TAKEN YOU (DESTINATIONS)?
Every state of Australia with places like Mallacoota, Tamboon, Lakes Entrance, Bemm River, Lake Tyres, Welshpool, Port Albert, Kilcunda, Bass Beaches, Phillip Island, Western Port, Port Phillip, Lake Eildon, Yarra River, Geelong, Apollo Bay, Warrnambool, Port Fairy, Nelson, Port MacDonald, Adelaide, Spencer Gulf, St Vincent’s Gulf, Murray River, Mulwala, Echuca, Yarrawonga, Port Lincoln, Greenly Island, Port Augusta, Coffin Bay, Neptune Islands, Scarborough. I have also fished many international locations such as Fiji 4 times, New Zealand 3 times, PNG 2 times, Vanuatu, Hawaii and the Bahamas to name a few.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT WORKING AT CRANBOURNE TACKLE WORLD?
The people I meet, Staff customers and people like you. I love fishing and sharing fishing with anyone.
The other plus is that the bloke who owns the place is a really nice guy and.............
WITH ALL YOUR FISHING KNOWLEDGE WHAT IS THE BEST TIP'S YOU CAN YOU GIVE TO A CUSTOMER?
Believe in your own ability and remember that the best time to catch a fish is within 10 minutes if having caught a fish.
Most importantly, enjoy your fishing. It is very easy to take it way too seriously which can take some of the fun out of it.
IF YOU HAD 1 WEEK TO LIVE, WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO FISH BEFORE TURNING INTO DIRT?
Can’t mention the actual town, but it was very average, although I would go there with Jarrod, At least that way it would feel like a year. Seriously, anywhere with water, fish, my wife and my boy.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE FISHING HOLIDAY DESTINATION AND WHY? The Rowley Shoals is an amazing fishing Mecca and also a piece of Mother Nature’s finest works. If I hadn’t already been there twice this would most definitely be my first choice. If there was no budget though I would dearly love to go back and fish Cabo San Lucas. AMAZING! The water is a cobalt blue that is indescribable and the people and their fishing methods make for a cultural experience like no other. We saw and caught yellowfin tuna, striped marlin, big dolphin fish, skipjacks, sailfish, trevally and all this from a small wooden boat 20km offshore. |
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SPECIES OF FISH TO CATCH AND STYLE OF FISHING?
I love catching any sort of trevally, be it silver trevally, GT’s, Bluefin. They all seem to have that go hard, fast and furious approach, which makes for an exciting fight whether they are 500g or 10kg.
I don’t do it very often now but any sort of bill fishing is amazing, when they strike and you see that amazing creature leap from the water, the adrenalin rush is simply out of this world! They would also be my favourite fish to release. Watching them effortlessly glide off is both satisfying and majestic.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE LURE AND IF SO WHAT IS IT?
My favourite lure is a Cotton Cordell – Pencil Popper. I used this lure on my first trip to Fiji 10 years ago and Paul tried to convince me to diversify at every different location. I didn’t and let’s just say my fishing album from that trip looks a little thicker than his!
WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE CATCH?
My most memorable catch would be my 140kg Blue Marlin of Port Stephens. It was my first marlin and the whole 2 week fishing trip was absolutely amazing. I can still remember the muscles in my legs starting to shake towards the end of the 1.5hr fight. It was an awesome experience to hold it by the bill and release it while my “boyfriend” (Paul!) drove the boat. Oh….. And the 1000kg pilot whale I caught! But that’s another story!
WHERE HAS FISHING TAKEN YOU (DESTINATIONS)?
I have fished every coast of this great land Australia and a large amount of its inland waterways also. QLD from Cooktown down. Fraser Island, GBR, Whitsunday’s, Inland for Barra. NSW from Port Stephens down and inland. Vic EVERYWHERE!, S.A the coast, WA, from Albany right the way up, Fremantle, Exmouth, Broome and Rowley’s. NT, Mary, Alligator (KAKADU). TAS, Flinders Island. I have also fished the South Island of New Zealand, All over the Fijian Islands, Hawaii, Mexico and the Bahamas.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT WORKING AT CRANBOURNE TACKLE WORLD?
The best thing for me about working at Cranbourne Tackleworld is the sense of family. Obviously it is quite strong for me as my husband and I run the shop, however I see everyone that works there as our family. We have a team that cares, and are passionate. They fish together and work together. They involve the customer like they are their brother or sister, and that makes for a happy workplace. Hence, I love coming to work!
WITH ALL YOUR FISHING KNOWLEDGE WHAT IS THE BEST TIP /S CAN YOU GIVE TO A CUSTOMER?
The best tip I could give a customer is to look at the big picture when you go fishing. Don’t just focus on landing the biggest fish ever! Enjoy the whole experience, from the technique to buying the bait, to the location and most importantly who you are spending it with. Be it your neighbour, your brother, your son or daughter, your wife or father, enjoy it for what it is, time with friends or family. When you are fishing you are usually in a beautiful surrounding. Sunrises, wildlife, crashing surf it certainly beats sitting at your work desk!
IF YOU HAD 1 WEEK TO LIVE, WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO FISH BEFORE TURNING INTO DIRT?
If I had one week to live I would take my husband and my son and fly to Bora Bora - Tahiti. We would charter a huge game fishing boat for the week and chase big marlin whilst sipping margaritas!
TELL US YOUR BEST CUSTOMER SALES STORY
My best customer sales story was when a little girl came in with her brothers and her dad on the school holidays. They were heading to Warneet pier, as they did every holidays but this time the REALLY wanted to catch a fish. I got them to bring their rods in out of the car and showed them how to properly rig up a double paternoster rig. We put the little orange beads on, which the girl loved! I fish the pier regularly so I showed them where to go and what to do and sent them on their way. It was only a $20 sale of some pipis, tackle and advice but the look on her face when they returned 3 hours later was PRICELESS. They had caught trevally, toadfish and a beautiful flathead. She was blown away and had two teeth missing at the front and I will never forget it because the smile never left her face.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE FISHING HOLIDAY DESTINATION AND WHY? Without a doubt, Weipa in far North Queensland. Lives: Ferntree Gully |
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SPECIES OF FISH TO CATCH AND STYLE OF FISHING?
Bream and Flathead are my favourite species to target. They both battle it out hard and can be caught using many techniques. One of which I have grown to love is flicking Hard Body and soft plastic lures in estuaries. The Gippsland lake system has been a favourite location to fish; it has always produced quality fish and continues to do so. Casting to the banks and shallow sand flats is great fun.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE LURE AND IF SO WHAT IS IT?
When saltwater fishing, I like casting a Gillies baitfish lazer. This particular lure is ideal for salmon, trevally, Northern Blue fin Tuna etc:
My favourite hard body lure is an RMG Scorpion 52DD, perfect for bream and flathead while Berkley 3” gulp soft plastics tend to attract everything to them.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE CATCH?
As a keen young angler, I fished the Rubicon River. I can still remember my first Brown Trout I had ever caught, it was a beauty!
WHERE HAS FISHING TAKEN YOU (DESTINATIONS)?
I have fished many locations including:
Victoria – Lake Eildon, The Goulburn River, Western Port, Port Phillip Bay, The Gippsland Lakes estuary system.
N.S.W – Lake Eucumbene, The Clarence River, The Upper Murray River.
Q.L.D – Weipa.
Northern Territory – The Adelaide River.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT WORKING AT CRANBOURNE TACKLE WORLD?
The Staff, They are great to work with and make each day fly.
WITH ALL YOUR FISHING KNOWLEDGE WHAT IS THE BEST TIPS YOU CAN YOU GIVE TO A CUSTOMER?
Don’t go on any fishing trip without checking all your fishing tackle and re-packing it. It’s disappointing if you are a long way from home without a vital piece of your fishing gear.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE FISHING HOLIDAY DESTINATION AND WHY? Lord Howe Island in the South Pacific Ocean. For some reason there is a strange feeling I really love having my arms stretched by big kings and other hard fighting fish. The trip I did in 2005 was unforgettable, kingfish to 15 kilos, silver trevally to 8 kilos and Wahoo to an estimated 65 lb amongst other species. What more could you ask for in a fishing destination..... Lives: Narre Warren. |
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SPECIES OF FISH TO CATCH AND STYLE OF FISHING?
Yellow Tail Kingfish are without doubt my favourite species. Jigging for them is my preferred method because they seem to hit and fight harder. They are the most brutal fish to tackle and most are lost because you just can’t pull them away from the reef in time to get the upper hand. Give me a king anyday...........
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE LURE AND IF SO WHAT IS IT?
To the above question I would say a 230g knife jig because of its versatility to be used in both shallow and deep water. When trolling for pelagic’s I just can’t resist putting out a 180mm Yo-Zuri Hydro Magnum in the Dorado colour. This lure has caught some of my PB fish and no matter where you put in your spread it always seems to get gobbled up.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE CATCH?
My most memorable catch was when was while fishing the Hinchinbrook Channel in QLD. We’d just finished catching Barramundi before deciding to cast soft plastics across the flats, when i was sight casting at GT’s and Queen fish. After hooking a few 15lb on 20lb braid, I suggested 4lb braid might be good fun and with the first cast right on target, it met a good GT that spooled me in a flash. Good fun, great memories and one less lure to take home.
WHERE HAS FISHING TAKEN YOU (DESTINATIONS)?
I’ve been fortunate to fish quite a number of great destinations over the past few years including, Tasmania, Flinders Island, King Island, Bermagui, Narooma and other parts of New South Wales, Townsville, Byron Bay, The Gold Coast, Port Douglas, Cairns, the Daintree River and other parts of Queensland, Lord Howe Island, Darwin, South Australia, Norfolk Island as well as the majority of Victoria’s coast.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT WORKING AT CRANBOURNE TACKLE WORLD?
I would say meeting people. Having a common interest with customers keeps you motivated to go to work. It’s great to here and tell fishing stories all day, then you get to go fishing before and after work.
WITH ALL YOUR FISHING KNOWLEDGE WHAT IS THE BEST TIPS YOU CAN YOU GIVE TO A CUSTOMER?
Don’t go out hoping to catch a fish, expect to catch one! Put in all the hard work researching your targeted species. What it eats? Where it lives? What tackle is required? Once you know all this information, catching it will become easier.
IF YOU HAD 1 WEEK TO LIVE, WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO FISH BEFORE TURNING INTO DIRT?
I would spend my last few days fishing in British Columbia Canada, targeting giant sturgeon fish. Alternatively, I would love to watch the salmon spawning in the mountains of Canada.

I served a customer who explained he'd given up fishing and hadn’t been in 10 years. He'd just decided to take it up again and wanted to go to the surf. After going through all the nitty gritty’s he ventured off to Kilcunda for the day. A few hours later, I heard a voice at the counter, “Where’s the lad that served me earlier?” he asked. A little worried I appeared thinking I had done something wrong. Then the customer kindly shook my hand, said thankyou and lobbed a massive 3 kilo salmon on the counter. I was chuffed to say the least because my advice was right and I had another happy customer

Still, nearby locations such as Lakes Entrance, Lake Tyers, Marlo and Tamboon are also very productive locations and worth fishing. Lives: Dandenong North. |
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SPECIES OF FISH TO CATCH AND STYLE OF FISHING?
I must admit I quite like targeting Bream and Estuary Perch with Soft Plastics and Hard Body Lures.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE LURE AND IF SO WHAT IS IT?
100mm Bloodworm Squidgy Wriggler.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE CATCH?
It may have taken some time but I was fortunate enough to catch a 5-6 kilo Mulloway in the Patterson River, closely followed by my first Southern Blue Fin Tuna from Portland.
WHERE HAS FISHING TAKEN YOU (DESTINATIONS)?
I have spent many hours fishing the estuary systems of Victoria, concentrating extensively on the Gippsland Lakes area. I have also fished in New South Wales around Lake Jindabyne and Eucumbene as well as the saltwater scene out from Portland.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE FISHING HOLIDAY DESTINATION AND WHY? I am quite fond of fishing around the Gippsland Lakes area. Being an avid bream and perch angler, this location holds excellent numbers of fish and I just can’t pry myself from its waters. Other locations include the Glenelg River, Hopkins River, Bemm River and Tamboon Inlet Lives: Narre Warren |
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SPECIES OF FISH TO CATCH AND STYLE OF FISHING?
Estuary Perch and Bream are high on the list. Catching them with soft plastics and hard body lures is my favourite style, it gives a more hunting feel to catching them.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE LURE AND IF SO WHAT IS IT?
When fishing for estuary species you can’t just have one old faithful lure, you have to adapt to the environment. in doing so, I tend to use the Emerald Shiner coloured 3” Bass Minnow, 100mm Bloodworm coloured Squidgy Wriggler, Ecogear SX40 Hard Body and Squidgy Bug in the Bloodworm colour.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE CATCH?
I spent 12 months in search of the elusive mulloway at Patterson River. I averaged, fishing two days a week during ridiculous hours to catch one. All in all the hard work and dedication to catch one payed off when I hooked and landed a 7.5 kilo jewie on a Berkley Gulp 3” shrimp soft plastic. The fish took 20 minutes to land on 6lb braid and 8lb leader. A catch I will never forget.
WHERE HAS FISHING TAKEN YOU (DESTINATIONS)?
I have extensively fished the estuary systems throughout Victoria, including many small rivers and streams that open into the sea. From South Australia to New South Wales I have fished the estuaries for bream, Flathead and Estuary Perch amongst others.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT WORKING AT CRANBOURNE TACKLE WORLD?
The opportunities that come your way and also working and fishing with some of the best guys in the industry is a real bonus. There is not one day I wake up in the morning and I don’t want to come to work, I love it.
WITH ALL YOUR FISHING KNOWLEDGE WHAT IS THE BEST TIPS YOU CAN YOU GIVE TO A CUSTOMER?
Fish with confidence, this also means making sure all your knots, rigs and baiting techniques are 100%. If there not, I can assure you, any fish hooked will find the weaknesses in your tackle very quickly leaving you a very unhappy, frustrated and fishless angler.
IF YOU HAD 1 WEEK TO LIVE, WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO FISH BEFORE TURNING INTO DIRT?
My dream is to stalk fish along the flats at Weipa. GT’s and Queenies are the main target and to become spooled by a monster is an experience I can’t wait for. Hopefully I make it there before the turning to dirt thing happens.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE FISHING HOLIDAY DESTINATION AND WHY? This would have to be the tropical island of Fiji. The amount of fishing to be done on this small island is phenomenal. Throwing poppers at GT’s, trolling lures for Yellow fin Tuna or even bottom bashing for Coral Trout, Mangrove Jack, Cod is just some of the fishing that you can do. Mix all of this together with a magnificent tropical climate and you’ll have a lifestyle to die for. Once you’ve been there you will see why it takes the cake in my book
Lives: Hampton Park |
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SPECIES OF FISH TO CATCH AND STYLE OF FISHING?

Gee, this is a hard one as has been many over the years. I have been on the fishing scene for 20 plus years and spoken to uncountable numbers of customers.
One that comes to mind was a guy new to game fishing. I must have spent 2 or 3 hours with this guy & he took in every word that was spoken about how to get a marlin. This guy went to bermagui & on his 2nd day out landed a fish well over a 100kg .He didn’t have the heart to take the fish out of the water, just took some photos and sent it on its way. That afternoon he rang me to thank me and explain his joy of the battle ,the strike the first run.
I think he spoke to me on his return to melb for 2 hours. The smile was never of his face as he relived the moment.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE FISHING HOLIDAY DESTINATION AND WHY? |
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SPECIES OF FISH TO CATCH AND STYLE OF FISHING?
Australian Salmon are my favourite species to catch as they are great fighters on light gear and unlike many people I love to eat them. Bleeding them quickly is the key. I prefer to bait fish for them in extremely rough, windy and wet conditions from rocks. Whilst the conditions make the going difficult I tend to get bigger fish and more of them. It also makes landing them more of a challenge, thus providing a greater sense of achievement.
I also love targeting Bream and Whiting, Flathead on lures, Trout and Redfin for their eating qualities.
I love all shore based fishing, I relish the challenge of picking a good spot simply by sight and the sense of achievement when all my theories of the day are realised.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE LURE AND IF SO WHAT IS IT?
Strike Pro Cyber Vibe #221; it casts well, has a great action and can be fished on a straight retrieve either slowly or quickly, it can also be used on a stop start retrieve including bottom hopping. I have caught several species including bream, flathead and redfin and because of its versatility I have been able to catch fish in very weedy and rocky areas without worrying about getting snagged.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE CATCH?
My most memorable catch was an unusual one. I was camped by the Darling River in NSW for a week with a few friends. We caught a large number of Yellow Belly, Redfin and only a few Carp.
We had to go into town and so I brought in my line with a yabby on it and left the rod sitting in the rod holder with the yabby still on the hook suspended about 30 to 40cm above the water. Upon returning about an hour later there was a small redfin hanging on the hook that had launched itself from the water.
WHERE HAS FISHING TAKEN YOU (DESTINATIONS)?
I don’t go away anywhere if I can help it where there is not water to fish in. It doesn’t matter whether it is fresh or salt, creek, river, lake or ocean. I just love to fish and will work out a way to get a line in the water.
I have fished in numerous coastal and inland waters from as far as Yambuk near Portland in Western Victoria to Southport in Queensland.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT WORKING AT CRANBOURNE TACKLE WORLD?
The staff are great to work with and always ready to share their knowledge. I love chatting with the customers and particularly helping newcomers to fishing get started.
It is simply the best job ever making a living out of my life long obsession.
WITH ALL YOUR FISHING KNOWLEDGE WHAT IS THE BEST TIP'S YOU CAN YOU GIVE TO A CUSTOMER?
Everybody has lean spells from time to time, keep getting out there and wetting a line eventually you will get on to a good session.
Don’t judge a fishing spot after one or two trips. There are many factors such as tide, barometer, wind, sea lice, bait selection, season etc that can affect whether or not the fish are biting. Do your homework before you go to a new location.
Strike up a conversation with people while their fishing; the better ones won’t be afraid to give you tips on the location.
IF YOU HAD 1 WEEK TO LIVE, WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO FISH BEFORE TURNING INTO DIRT?
Anywhere up Northern Queensland throwing lures in the tropical waters where the fish seem to be plentiful. I’d like to make sure I don’t go out on a dry spell.

Those who care will be happy to pass on any information they can. We all had to start somewhere.
IF YOU HAD 1 WEEK TO LIVE, WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO FISH BEFORE TURNING INTO DIRT?
Los Rouques for two days fishing for Bonefish and Permit on fly.
New guinea Bass for two days.
And of course New Zealand for trout, what can I say, I’m greedy.
TELL US YOUR BEST CUSTOMER SALES STORY
I would love to write one down but I have been fortunate to have many occassions where I have been able to help a fellow angler. I enjoy every success story weather it be my help or one of the talented anglers I work with.
